Hi

I'm not sure if I ever responded, though from the looks of it, I haven't. I'm happy to hear that the legislative information I provided to you was beneficial. Congratulations on beginning your company!

Here's to a happy and healthy new year!

Hi BehaviorBabe,

I'm unsure if you remember me, but you helped me answer some important legislative questions before starting Autism Intervention Specialists in January of this year. We opened our doors in March and have been blessed with the ability to reach out to nearly 100 families in less than 9 months. We have two offices in Massachusetts, one in CT, one in NH (which is under development), and looking to open a fifth office in Western MA. We service children, teens, and adults with autism, Asperger's, PDD and Retts in all of New England except for Maine. We conduct 1:1 Home ABA, ABA Social Skill Training, and Community Outing ABA programs. All our services are funded by private insurance. If you know anyone who would benefit from this information, please share it with them. They can find out more about us by calling 508 232 7555 or visiting www.autismspecialty.com. Thanks!!

Hello, Behaviorbabe,

Your ABA site is thorough and extensive. I especially like your page on the ABC's of ABA.

I have a blog on the ethics of behavior modification with 25 posts and 5800 unique visitors since February 2007. I write it from the perspective of a consumer of mental health services. I accept behavioral interventions as long as they're done with the consent of the recipients of treatment as well as their parents and guardians and with positive reinforcement instead of punishment.

I would be honored if we could exchange links to each other's sites. Perhaps you will visit my site and consider the offer. The more links to your site, the higher its search engine rank.

The URL is http://rewardandconsent.blogspot.com.

Please let me know one way or the other.

Thank you,

Dave

Hi Myriam, A great place to look to for finding a mentor is the Certificant Registry on the BACB.com website. You could also consider posting your need on related facebook pages, BACB, Applied Behavior Analysis, Behaviorbabe, etc.

For visuals you can take a look at Picto Selector. It is a freeware resource with 14000 symbols. Maybe you can add it as a resource on your site?

Hi Anne...I would recommend that you go to the Association of Professional Behavior Analysis (APBA) website and search for their Employment Survey. You can access the link on the "VERY Informative Links" page under the "Helpful Resources" section on my site. Thank you for browsing the site and for your question....Amanda

I am wondering what the employment forecast in this field is. I have a background in volunteerting with disabled including autism/asperbergers and find that my present job in education is going away and I will be on unemplyment soon. I am thinking of getting certification, but need to know there will be jobs when I graduate. Any thoughts?

Hi Kimberly...For the information you requested, I would specifically recommend visiting the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts (APBA) website. If you go the "VERY Informative Links" page on this site you will find a direct link to APBA under "Helpful Resources". The APBA is a relatively new organization whose mission is to serve "the needs of professional behavior analyst practitioners credentialed by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB)". Information on this site ranges from state-specific insurance coverage for ABA services, licensing of BCBA's, and liability coverage for Independent Practitioners as well as other related matters. For updated information on maintaining certification, revised BCaBA/BCBA conduct guidelines and access to the BCBA certificant registry, visit www. bacb . com (minus the spaces). Thank you for visiting my site and for posting your questions...Amanda

This is a great website! THANK YOU for sharing information with professionals and families.
I am a BCBA and have been employed as an employee to date. I´m now looking to move into the realm of independent contractor. Do you have any information or resources regarding the realm of a contractor and what I need to know? I´m wondering about taxes, insurance, regulations, etc.
Thank you for anything you can provide.

Hi Cathy,

If you visit "Literary Resources" on my site you will find some books which are recommended for parents and professionals alike. Brief, general behavioral tips can be found under my "Behavior Management 101" page; however the information listed here may seem too superficial for the type of concerns you are experiencing. There are several states that have passed bills approving insurance reimbursement for ABA Services. Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, New York and Tennessee have laws that specifically address insurance coverage for autism-related services. California, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Virginia require coverage for autism-related services as part of laws that say insurers must cover autism as they do other mental illnesses. You may also find helpful resources on the "Autism" section on the "VERY Informative Links" page on my site. As for specific recommendations, you may want to contact your child's school team. One thing I will recommend is familiarizing yourself with the law. You may want to investigate the New Hampshire Council on Autism Spectrum Disorders. A Google search of "autism" "waiver" "families" "New Hampshire" also led me to information on Autism Speaks New Hampshire: Home & Community-Based Waivers.

I hope you find this information helpful. I appreciate the time you took to visit my site.

Hi, I am a parent of a child with PDD-NOS with behavioral problems in which I am unable to work. I am having difficulties finding ABA Therapy because of lack of funds and the only insurance I have is Healthy Kids Gold through the state of NH. Without the right help I can't gain employment. My son is 10 and I have all I can do to restrain him when he has a melt down. I am extremely worried. If you or anyone else has any recommendations, I would love to here them.

Amanda, This website is a great idea. I actually found you while researching potential supervisors for certification. Not sure what I'm doing yet on that front. I have tons of experience(13+ years) as an ABA provider and an educator/therapist, but came to Mass. to get my MA in Expressive Therapies many years ago. I never got around to pursuing certification for behavior analysis, even though I never left the field. I've been working as an Autism Specialist for an Anne Sullivan EI program(Lowell area) for almost 6 years now. Anyway I just wanted to say that I plan to pass on your web address to families who are interested in ABA. Thanks !

Amanda very informative site. My son had rough start in kindergarten; I was amazed how foreign the concepts of ABA seem to in schools. Luckily I have good friend in the field and he was able to recommend some local resources to observed the classroom and create a behavioral plan, which we'll be reviewing with the school next week.

I was fortunate to know people with expertise; however, I sense that is not the case with the general public. Your site is a good reference source for people that had never heard of ABA, or consider ABA as an option for their own child.
